Senior Gleaners of San Diego County- 10News Leadership Award
Senior Gleaners of San Diego County was recognized with the prestigious 10News Leadership Award, which has celebrated exceptional individuals and organizations in San Diego for over 40 years. In partnership with LEAD San Diego, ABC 10News acknowledges those who dedicate their time and energy to improve our community. This recognition highlights the passion, purpose, and commitment that defines Senior Gleaners of San Diego County.
The Senior Gleaners' mission is simple yet impactful: to engage seniors in meaningful work while addressing food insecurity in our region. By assisting homeowners with their overabundance of fruit, they not only help prevent waste but also provide fresh produce to those who need it most.
This initiative is a win-win for everyone involved. Seniors stay active and connected, homeowners contribute to a greater cause, and local families receive nutritious food. Through these efforts, Senior Gleaners continue to strengthen San Diego, one piece of fruit at a time.

Annual Volunteer Recognition - September 2024
The Retired and Senior Volunteer Program (RSVP) and Senior Volunteers in Action (SVA) hosted three regional volunteer recognition events for volunteers in September.  Volunteers enrolled in these programs were given thanks for their volunteer service.  Volunteers were able to share a summary of their specific volunteer activities with the group.  They were treated to a delicious lunch and service awards were given out for those who have volunteered 20 years or more and to those with the most hours in their region.  Thanks to donations from local businesses, many volunteers went home with great prizes from the opportunity drawing.  Some of the prizes included a one-night stay at the Hyatt downtown, Harbor cruises, tickets to museums, certificates to restaurants, San Diego Padre gear, tickets to plays, and tickets to a performance at the Rady Shell. Thank you to all these amazing people for giving their time to serve their community

Annual Volunteer Recognition - May 2023
Retired and Senior Volunteer Program (RSVP) and Senior Volunteers in Action (SVA) participants were honored at four recognition events held across the county in May. We want to extend a special thank you to all the station administrators and volunteers who attended. We appreciate all your continued support.

Alzheimer's San Diego, Walk4ALZ Event 2021
This past October, one of our partner sites, Alzheimer's San Diego, recently had an event supporting the 100,000 of San Diegans living with dementia and their care partners (with their dogs!). They exceeded their fundraising goal of $475,000 with a total of $476,726 which every penny raised stayed local to San Diego County!

RSVP/SVA Volunteer Recognition Drive-Thru Luncheon 2020
Retired and Senior Volunteer Program (RSVP) and Senior Volunteers in Action (SVA) participants historically, are honored at three regional recognition events during the month of May. Due to COVID19, the program shifted from tradition and had to get creative. The events were held in September by having three drive-thru events that were hosted in various parking lots around the County.

This was a fun and new experience for the volunteers! Volunteers were given a to-go lunch, prepared by Cupid’s Catering. They were also given an insulated lunch tote, mask, hand sanitizers and alcohol wipes.

After the lunch drive-thru events, there was a virtual celebration via zoom for those wishing to attend. During the zoom call, the RSVP Manager expressed thanks to volunteers and recognized those volunteers with the highest number of volunteer hours as well as those with 20 or more years of volunteer service.
