Joyce Miller is the December Volunteer of the Month. She was nominated by David Piccus, the Rancho Bernardo Retired Senior Volunteer Patrol (RSVP) Administrator. Joyce is a valuable and accomplished volunteer who wears many hats. She serves on the Public Safety Team, conducting community patrols. Joyce trains newer volunteers through her role as a Field Training Officer, and organizes recruitment efforts of new volunteers as the group’s Recruiting Area Coordinator.
One of Joyce’s favorite roles is checking on clients enrolled in the You Are Not Alone (YANA) program. These clients are vulnerable, homebound seniors who live alone and receive regular visits from RSVP volunteers to assess their welfare. Joyce treats clients with the utmost kindness and respect and they look forward to her visits. Joyce is also the person who goes out to interview new YANA clients.
Joyce has been described as very friendly and extremely helpful. She is always willing to help her fellow volunteers and is ready to fill in for others if they have any sort of emergency that may prevent them from doing a scheduled patrol. She is known for being positive and is never one to complain. Joyce is also a meticulous planner, which is evidenced in the planning she has done for the many RSVP events in which she participates.
The RSVP Administrator speaks very highly of Joyce. He said, “Joyce makes my job much easier. She is always smiling, has positive input for the group, and is a great partner on patrols. She helps make Rancho Bernardo a safer place to live”. Congratulations Joyce! Thank you for all that you do!
