Randy Sherman is the June, 2018 RSVP & SVA Volunteer of the Month. He was nominated by Sergeant Monica Sanchez at the San Diego Sheriff’s Main Office. Randy is the Senior Volunteer Coordinator at this site. “He has been an awesome addition to the SVP Coordinator position. We couldn’t survive without Randy’s help”. His duties include tracking volunteer hours, running academies, and managing meetings. Randy facilitates both the monthly administrative meeting and the quarterly YANA meetings. Randy’s favorite volunteer activity is managing the Senior Volunteer Patrol academies. He is known to regularly exceed full-time hours during these academies. In addition to all of the administrative duties he performs, Randy also makes time to personally patrol for the SVP in the rural areas.
Randy goes “above and beyond” whenever he is needed. For example, when this station participates in parades (which they do approximately 5 times per year), Randy always volunteers to drive the shuttle to make sure all the parade walkers get where they need to go, on time. The parade walkers range from SVP volunteers, to Deputies, to paid staff from the station. Randy also helps out with the annual Teddy Bear Drive. Last year, he was especially helpful with this; driving all over the County, picking up more than 1,000 donated teddy bears from various station collection points and delivering them to Rady Children’s Hospital. From these examples, it is obvious why Randy has been described as “very dependable, trustworthy and a hard worker”. He has also been said to have a great sense of humor.
Lastly, how one’s peers talk about them can also be very telling. Randy’s peers seem to really like and appreciate him: “He’s awesome to have around”. “Great Guy!”. “Best Coordinator Ever”.
Congratulations and thank you Randy, for all that you do!!
